Become a Mentor

We are connecting LGBTQ adults and elders in Guilford County to engage and support local LGBTQ youth navigating the intersections of education, their own identity, power sharing, and community building. Time commitment is 4 hours per month for 18 months. If you or someone you know is interested, please fill out our application.

Lineage

The gathering builds on the lineage of Bayard Rustin, the radical black queer strategist who designed the famous 1963 March on Washington, by reclaiming Black queer leadership as essential to bringing people together across diverse backgrounds for the purpose of resisting injustice and creating a community where everyone can thrive.

Building Community & Collective Power

We come together in solidarity against injustices. We aim to empower LGBTQ communities and support our families.

Participants of Rustin’s Reunion will be invited to join in intergenerational, community-building activities that honors the practices of care and traditions of resistance that queer communities have employed across decades: mentorship, mutual aid, political education, community organizing and leadership development.

Most significantly, Rustin’s Reunion provides an opportunity to come together as LGBTQ+ people in the roles we have as neighbors, teachers, grandparents, politicians, preachers, friends… as FAMILY, and build networks of leaders among the Guilford queer community, and our collective power.
